Surgical Concerns for Patients on Herbal Supplements
Before surgery, it is important to let your doctor know that you are taking vitamins or herbal supplements. Some herbs can thin your blood and make it difficult to clot your blood safely.
For instance, did you know that Ginseng and Garlic inhibit the development of platelets and may be irreversible?
If your doctor doesn't know you are taking these, it may complicate your treatment or cost you your life. Take the proper precautions! Inform your doctors of any supplements you are taking because this will only help them keep you safe.
Below is a list of the top six blood thinners. You should not be taking any of these 7 days before surgery...
- Ginseng
- Garlic
- Ginkgo
- Ginger
- Vitamin E
- Fish oil
They are great for what they do! Just be sure that your doctors knows that you are taking them. All too often, patients try to doctor themselves and are afraid to communicate. We are here to let you know, we will listen.
